METALLISED FILM

metalisedfilm.jpg (14709 bytes)

Metallisation involves the application of a thin layer of aluminium to a film substrate.  The process takes place inside a chamber, where heated aluminium is evaporated onto the film as it is unwound and then rewound at high speed in a vacuum.

The result is a film that is not only visually more attractive but also considerably more resistant to oxygen and water vapour transmission.
Metallised film is used in a wide variety of food packaging applications where either high barrier or striking appearance is required for example in crisp packing (BOPP), bread wrap (PE) or sweets (CPP).  The process is also used for metallising BOPET for capacitors.
